Meet Coach Amy

I wanted to introduce you to another member of my coaching team. Meet Coach Amy! Amy is a 34 year old mother of three young boys and is a full time 3rd grade teacher. Amy told me that she had always led a very active life until pregnancy after pregnancy packed on the pounds for her. About 6 months ago, she had gastric bypass surgery for health reasons. Since then, she has lost 94 pounds and is off all medication. She has rediscovered herself and her love of sports and fitness. She continues to lose weight and wants to be able to keep it off for life and that is where Beachbody helps her. Amy wants to be able to create the healthy life that she wants and deserve. At the same time, Amy wants to teach her family and friends what fitness is all about and how much fun it can be. Come visit her website and be sure to check out her blog!

Not to be a bitch or anything, but why is someone coaching other people on losing weight when she took an easy way out?

Screwdestiny - The surgery Amy had was not easy. It involves changing the way that you do things like eating and exercise. It is a major lifestyle change!! A lot of folks do not do that and their result is going back to their original weight if not more. Amy has to eat right and exercise for her surgery to be a success. It's not an easy easy out and I know that she is dedicated to improving her life and helping others who have walked that path. Her coaching helps her be accountable to herself and to those folks that may have walked the same path she has.

Okay, so she had to change her eating habits...because her stomach got stapled and she was *forced* to eat smaller amounts. Yeah, your stomach can stretch back over time if you let it, but there isn't anybody that doesn't lose weight when they first get gastric bypass. It's just not possible. It's a hell of a lot harder to simply eat right using willpower than to have someone make it so you can't eat large portions.

Ladies,
I HAVE to jump in here. As a RN, I have worked recovery room and have cared for many gastric bypass patients. How I wish it was as simple a procedure as "stomach stapling." Not true. These people would tend to be the most unstable patients post op because it is SO much more. It is literal a bypass.

Because it is such a HUGE surgery, it is one the surgeons do with great caution. The person has to be properly screened. It is done for medical reasons...typically life or death.

It can have the most unpleasant side effects afterwards called "gastric dumping." It's not a side effect most people would want to contend with.

I don't agree that it's an easy way out. There is nothing easy about it.

Just one more quick comment :P

I'm actually proud to have Amy as a fellow Beachbody coach.

The unfortunate reality is that there is a segment of our population who is in this same situation: a life or death precipice. They may feel embarrassed, alienated, etc.

Not only can Amy coach and support this group (and others,) she can EMPATHIZE with them.

Coaching is about a journey...we each have our own story. ;-)
